Our Journey
On a 2008 vision trip, our leaders were armed with a basic understanding that we wanted to go “beyond relief”, where relief is defined as the urgent provision of emergency aid to reduce immediate suffering during a crisis. Contrary to relief, development work solutions always include significant participation and engagement with the beneficiaries. It almost always includes training, education, and long-term planning to advance sustainability. It is a journey rooted in deep relationships where both sides benefit from the shared experience and time together. To accomplish this goal we started off by meeting with over twenty established local Uganda NGO's that focus primarily on development. Ultimately, the research from this trip led to a partnership with several organizations and this website describes some of the work that has transpired since that initial trip. Beyond Relief is not a nonprofit organization, but rather a theme to characterize the various work that we do. We established a nonprofit, World Water Project (dba TivaWater), that is used to fund our international work and has launched several projects and big ideas described in this website. Our initial group has grown to include many people who are involved with the various projects. We are not bound by any specific church affiliation. Rather, our team is a collection of Christ followers working together by using their unique gifts, talents and financial resources to bring glory to God. Over 140 different souls have traveled to Uganda, including many families. Below is a collection of videos and pictures from some of our work. |
